New Star Trek Movie Trailer = Wow!

As a casual fan of Star Trek, I was excited to hear that there is a new movie coming out. I was even more excited when I learned it was being directed by JJ Abrams (who created Alias, one of my all time favorite tv shows, and co-created Lost). I was never a fan of the original Star Trek series. I think it was mostly because it was "before my time" but I never went out of my way to watch any reruns. However, I did see all of the movies with the original crew and became a fan of The Next Generation when I started watching it with friends after it had been on a few years. The new movie coming out next summer is a reboot or prequel of the original series and it looks amazing. I didn't think I would get too excited about it since I wish they had done at least one more movie with the current (Next Generation) characters but after seeing the trailer, I can't wait. Check it out at the link below!

Not Much and a Music Video.

Not much has been going on since my last post. I think that's a good thing. This past weekend was a lazy weekend for Jam, Evan, and I. We hung out and kept it local. We got out Evan's train which he got for Christmas from Pap last year and ran it until the batteries ran out. He really loves his train. We also found him some Sesame Street figurines at the Christmas Tree Shop which just opened by us. They rode in his train and he has been taking them everywhere. They even went to the sitter with him. Evan and I went and visited Meme on Monday and Jam had off work on Tuesday so he had an exceptionally good week.

Other than the normal day to day, I finished a book I started last weekend, Star Trek The Next Generation: Resistance. The book was really good, better than I had expected it to be. It is one of the first to continue on from after the last movie. I highly recommend it to Star Trek fans. I finished it in a week and I usually milk reading books but I couldn't put it down. I have barely started the next book in the series, Q & A.

This weekend we are planning on keeping it local again because some relatives are coming up for a visit. I'm also going to go see The Dark Knight Saturday or Sunday night at the West Shore Theatre. I have not seen the movie yet and can't wait. Maybe I'll find some time before then to watch Batman Begins. I have not seen that one for a while.

It's been a little while since I have posted a music video so here is a good one. This is the video for the song Decode by Paramore. It's on the Twilight movie soundtrack. Twilight is based on the book of the same name, a love story about a teenage girl and a vampire. I have not read the book but would like to and wouldn't mind seeing the movie sometime. The book series is supposedly almost on a popularity par with Harry Potter. I'm sure the movie will do very well when it comes out later this month. This kind of thing is actually right up my alley. Vampires fascinate me and I really like movies like Lost Boys, From Dusk Til Dawn, Blade, and Underworld and novels which feature vampires by authors like Kim Harrison, Mario Acevedo, and Michael Romkey to name a few. Anyway, I thought this was a pretty good song when I heard it on the radio for the first time the other day. I bought both of Paramore's cds this past year and they are both good. My musical taste varies greatly but I do tend to like bands with female singers. Garbage, Veruca Salt, Letters To Cleo, Eve's Plum, Red Five, The Breeders, Save Ferris, Elastica, Evanescence, Flyleaf, and Rilo Kiley are some of my favorites in a list of many. Enjoy the video!

A Scary Experience

I had a scary experience on my way to work on Wednesday night. I was driving to work and as I was rounding a sharp curve in the road, I saw a small animal run across the street. It looked like a squirrel or chipmunk or something. I thought nothing of it because the route I was taking is on a country road and there are always small animals around. I finished rounding the curve and was about to accelerate back to the speed of the road when a dog leapt out onto the road right in front of my car. He came from the yard to the right which is completely privacy-fenced in other than the driveway. He hit the road running apparently chasing the small animal. My car was only about 5 feet away. I slammed the brakes but the road was wet since it was lightly raining and I hit him at about 15 mph or so. He let out a small yelp as he rolled under the front end of the car and my heart sank as I feared the worst. A few seconds later, to my amazement, he got up and ran in the direction of whatever he had been chasing. I sat there dazed for a bit then continued driving trying to see where he ran off to. I got almost to work but decided to turn around and back to see if I could see him but I never did. I turned around again and headed to work, which was only about three miles away, still fearing the worse. I got to work and asked my coworker, Katt, if she knew of anyone with a light colored dog nearby. She lives on the street where this happened and knew the last name of the people who lived in the house where the dog ran from. We found their number online and she called them and they said that they had heard a noise and called for their dog and he came home and was fine. He had a little bit of blood, probably road rash, but that's it. I was so relieved that the dog was ok. They thanked us for calling and letting them know what happened. I was so happy because I had feared the worst. Since I had just been coming around a sharp curve in the rain, I was going pretty slow. That with the fact that the dog was running low to the ground and the luck that my tires straddled him probably saved his life. I never want to experience anything like that again. I don't know what I would do if my dog, Logan, ran out into the road and was hit by a car. He's getting some extra treats and a big hug today for being such of good dog.

Obama wins presidential election!

After an amazing presidential election, Barack Obama has won and become the first African American to be elected president of the United States of America. I am so proud to be a part of this country right now and find it so exciting for my son to grow up in a time where diversity can be embraced and change is possible. These are truly amazing times. Thanks to everyone who voted, no matter who you voted for. It is inspiring to hear the amazing statistics of how many people got out there to let their voice be heard.
