So, I have no excuse for not posting, I honestly just have not been able to think of anything to post about. Is that called bloggers block? Something like that I guess. Seriously though, not a whole lot has been going on lately. Thanksgiving has come and gone. Christmas is soon approaching. We have been getting ready for the holidays. Our tree is up and most of the shopping is done. Christmas with Evan is going to be so fun this year. Last year was his first but I think that this year he will be more into it. 2008 was a pretty awesome year but I can not wait for 2009. I just think it is going to be an amazing year.
One thing that we (Jam and I) have been doing is watching some tv. I definitely watch more than Jam though. I am an avid tape it and watch it later kinda person. And yes I said tape, I am one of a few who still uses a VCR. Anyway, with the holiday coming up, most shows are getting ready for a couple of weeks or couple of months break. Some are never coming back and some are returning after long breaks. Most shows have been good. Mostly more of the same quality as they had been before. Two shows really stood out for me this year. Both are wrapping up their second seasons. Both are on ABC. They are Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies. Oh, and both are CANCELLED. WTF?
Eli Stone started in Jan 08 and I gave it a shot because there was honestly not much else on because of the writers strike. I was hooked from the start and glad that it was picked up for a season two which started Oct 08 and in my opinion has been just as good. I believe there is one more episode scheduled for this year and the rest will hopefully air sometime in 2009. If not, I'm sure there will be a DVD set I can rent via netflix.
Pushing Daisies started in Oct 07 but I didn't watch it. I saw a few commercials and thought it looked interesting but didn't see it until it came out on DVD. I rented it from netflix and was hooked from the first episode. Pushing Daisies quickly became my favorite current tv show. Jam really liked it too. Season 2 started in Oct 08 and we have loved every minute of it. The basic premise of the show is that Ned, the pie-maker, has the ability to touch the dead and bring them back to life for one minute. The catch is that before one minute is up, he must touch again to make the undead dead again or someone else, whomever is in closest proximity will die. Even after the minute is up though, Ned can never touch the newly alive or they will die. Ned uses his ability to help detective Emerson Cod solve murders. Upon learning that his first childhood love, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles has died, they go to her to solve her murder but after Ned touches her, he does not touch her again and now the three of them solve crimes together. Also on the show is Olive Snook who is a waitress at the Pie Hole who loves Ned from afar and Vivian and Lily Charles who are Chuck's aunts. I don't want to say anything more because I want to encourage everyone to watch the show on tv or dvd or whatever. It is the most unique and visually impressive and creative shows in years and I can't believe that there is only 4 episodes left. The last episode for this year is on next Wednesday and then the final three will air in 2009, rumor has it maybe all in one night. I really do love this show and will probably pick up the DVD set(s) after it is all over.I think Heroes was good this year and Stargate Atlantis has been another favorite of mine since I started watching it last year. Stargate Atlantis ends with it's 100th episode in January but will continue on sometime in the future with straight-to-DVD movies. Shows I am looking froward to coming back in January are Battlestar Galactica (the final season, can not wait), Lost, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, and Friday Night Lights.
I have not watched too many movies lately but have managed to squeeze in a few. I finally got around to seeing The Dark Knight when it was at the West Shore Theatre in New Cumberland and it was as amazing as everyone praises it for being. Jam and I went out and saw Four Christmases last weekend which was pretty funny. The only DVDs I have watched from netflix recently were those of the second season of Dexter. Good show but the first season was far superior. The only DVD we bought recently was The X-Files I Want To Believe. We saw it in the theatre and both liked it and wanted to see it again sooner than later. I knew I would buy it but was going to wait until after Christmas. Jam just told me to get it since she was going to get it anyway and I really wanted it. We didn't watch it yet though. Maybe this weekend. I've been doing a little bit of reading lately too. I started reading the Star Trek Next Generation books that take place after the shows and movies and they have been pretty good. I have been reading some comics too but right now can't think of any that stand out. Marvels Secret Invasion was pretty good but it seemed a bit drawn out. I did just learn that New Exiles is being cancelled after the 18th issue but it is time. It has never been as good as the original Exiles.
I have not been playing too many games but what little I have been playing are good. I got "Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure" for the Wii which is a lot of fun. Every Wii owner should get this game. It is very unique, fun, and challenging. I am pretty sure it is out of print now too. I also downloaded Megaman 9 which is a lot harder than I remember the Mega Man games being. It's great though because it is modeled after the original Mega Man and Mega Man 2 which were on the NES. The Mega Man series was is one of my all time favorites and it is cool that this new one has that retro 8-bit feel. What I have been up to lately is enjoying my days with Evan and my evenings with Evan and Jam. There is really nothing better than that. Our friend Mike came over for a visit this week too which was nice. Mike is my best friend from college and we had not been able to get together for a few months. Evan had a lot of fun showing him his toys and I'm sure Mike enjoyed watching Sesame Street with us. Ha ha! Anyway, I think that's the gist of what has been going on the last month or so. Now go rest your eyes devoted readers, but only after you watch this video from Pushing Daisies!
