I'll be honest, I had mixed expectations about the movie but am pleased to say that it was well above expectation. The writing was good, though slightly juvenile at times (this is the 'pilot' for an animated series) and the animation was impressive (better than I expected after seeing some trailers). The intro, which was reminiscent of old war time news reels, showed many characters that I can't wait to see in the television series once it starts. The story takes place between Episodes II and III and centers around the kidnapping of Jabba the Hutt's son. The Jedi (Obi-Wan, Anakin, and newcomer Ahsoka Tano) are tasked to rescue him from Count Dooku and Assaj Ventress. There are some good humerous moments and some inventive action scenes. The Jedi and Clone Troopers ascending the Hutt monostary was a memorable scene. If you are a Star Wars fan and fan of animation, this is a good film. It is however the pilot for an upcoming series on cartoon network so keep in mind that it is aimed at a youger audience than the feature films. Nonetheless, I give the movie a B+.After the movie and a quick trip to Starbucks, we dropped in on our friend Samanthas birthday party. I'm glad we were able to pop in since I don't see her much since she is one of my best friends as well and I don't get to see her often. Then we headed home to meet Bill at Mikes house. Bill got there not long after us and then Greg and Sid showed up. I had never met Greg and Sid before but they are both pretty cool.
The five of us headed downtown for dinner. The weather was excellent, a great night to be at the Inner Harbor, though it was insanely crowded. We went to dinner at Hooters which was... well... dinner at Hooters. Our waitress had a Yankees cap on. What the hell! No O's cap? She gave us some half assed excuse so we let it slide. "Our groom" lost a beer chugging contest with another groom so we bought them a pitcher of beer. A while later, a pitcher showed up from them so it was all good. After dinner we headed over to THE block for some adult entertainment and were quickly reminded why we don't frequent THE block, we decided to head to a club somewhere else. After a few citations were issued for peeing in a parking garage (not me) and a couple of us were asked to step out of the car and put our hands on the hood (me) since we were suspiciously sitting in the back of a car for a half hour (we were waiting for the others to be issued their citations), we headed out. We ended up at Night Shift which was a pretty decent club. Come closing time we headed home. We parted ways at Mike's house. I hung out and chatted with Mychal and his fiance Laura for a bit and then headed home. It was 3 a.m. but I was wide awake (the curse of a night owl who regularly works third shift) and I actually prefer driving at night. At that hour there was so little traffic so I enjoyed the nice night and my music for the hour ride home. What a fun day.
Not much has been going on this week. Just eagerly awaiting the three day weekend coming up. No plans yet but I'm sure we will figure something out. Probably take a few day trips since everything vacation wise is booked up. I'll keep you posted.
