Good summer viewing.

When it's nice in the summer, I like to do things outside. But lately it has been really hot or really rainy. With the gas prices and lack of time sometimes, it is just as nice to stay home and chill as it is to go out and do something. One of my favorite things to do is watch something new on tv. But let's face it, for the most part, summer tv blows. Pretty much the only things on are crappy game shows and reality shows. Also, two of my favorite summer tv shows were cancelled after last summer. The 4400 and The Dead Zone were both cancelled, though I will admit that both were at the point where they needed to end. I just hate when shows are not given the chance to have a finale and are cancelled with loose ends never to be tied up.

Anyway, in my opinion, good summer tv is starting this week. Stargate Atlantis comes back this Friday with Season 5. I love the original Stargate movie that starred James Spader and Kurt Russel but never got into the Stargate SG-1 tv series which spun out of it. I watched the first few episodes of Stargate Atlantis back when the series began but could not get into it either. When I heard Stargate SG-1 was finishing after 10 seasons, I decided I'd watch the last few episodes and since Stargate Atlantis was on afterwards, I watched it too. SG-1, in my opinion, was still not that good but Atlantis had become a really great show. I ended up watching only Atlantis and it became one of my favorite shows of last year. The season finale was one of the best episodes of any show last year. I'm excited it's coming back. I'm also glad to see that the two new regular cast members are people whom I am a fan of. Jewel Staite (Kaylee Frye from Firefly/Serenity) and Robert Picardo (the doctor from Star Trek Voyager).

Next Friday, Monk and Psych both come back. They are two really enjoyable detective shows on the USA network that are also very funny too. The only other shows I think we'll be watching are Ghost Hunters International and Paranormal State which are both okay and maybe Scare Tactics which looks funny.
